Ko Te Maiora Rurehe tōku ingoa. He mea whāngai ahau nā te whānau Gardiner/Tamati. Heoi anō, he tātai whakapapa ōku ki a Tūhoe me Ngāti Whare.

Te Maiora grew up in the Minginui, a small mill town located at the foothills of the Whirinaki forest. His father was a DOC ranger and would take the kids to the forest often, fostering Te Maiora’s keen interest in all things taiao. This recently included going to the #1 environmental law school in America, Pace University, to receive a Masters of Environmental Law.

As a performer for Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao kapa haka, Te Maiora has been able to visit many of the places of significance for Tūhourangi, often referenced in their items. Sites that inform the cultural identity of the people. A reminder that, like our people, our taiao is diverse and expansive.
