An invitation to whānau of Tūhourangi, Ngāti Tarāwhai and Ngāti Rangitihi to the Te Ora o Tarawera Wānanga Tiaki Wai on 8th-10th September. A collective impact project focused on supporting the health of the Tarawera Lakes System. The Wānanga Tiaki Wai is primarily for our Tarawera Iwi so we wanted to give a bit of early notice to our iwi partners to ensure they can get interested whānau registered first.
The purpose of this wānanga is to build capacity and capability for uri to participate in and make decisions for freshwater management andacknowledge whānau, hapū and iwi rangatiratanga, strengthen iwi relationships, associations and interests across kaitiakitanga, and support whanau into reconnecting with their whenua and wai.
Although we are still finalising the agenda we have locked in a boat ride on Lake Tarawera with kōrero from Dr Ian Kusabs (the boat has a capacity of 60 including crew), a Te Mana o Te Wai workshop with Deliah Balle and Arihia Hoani-Waaka, and are looking at a hikoi up Kakaramea and earth pigment workshop with Kauae Raro.
